Costumes RSS FeedsRe: What can you do with a pattern? (X-Posted) - even this group has a HUGE thread on copyright, not just legality but nuance of morality etc. I read it some not too awful long ago, you might glean a lot of info from that thread, but remember to directly quote those who posted, hehe. sorry could not resist that one. M....Feed Source: CraftyVixens.tribe.net Re: What can you do with a pattern? (X-Posted) - it is my understanding that a person legally cannot use a brand pattern like "simplicity" to make hundreds of items to sell. One cannot use a brand of fabric that is copyright protected to make items to sell either. For example, if Disney caught you selling stuff with Pooh Bear copyrighted fabric they may sue. There are plenty of fabrics that aren't copyright protected though. I belong to a doll yahoo group and boy those ladies sure did have a lot to say about it when the same subject came up.... Re: stenciling fabric techniques?? - i definitely think a good trick is - to just a little paint at a time, you can always add more to make it darker, brighter more vivid. I love stenciling when just the edge is done dark and it fades into a very light powdery kind of center. I've been so tempted to do my new living room in Ivy, but i fear it may have gone out of style.... What can you do with a pattern? (X-Posted) - I'm writing a paper for my degree on how copyright and patent law interacts with garment patterns. As part of it, I'd like to collect common opinions on this. So, please tell me what you think! For example, Are garments protected by copyright? Are garment patterns? Can you copy a garment that you bought? Can you then sell that garment? Can you sell a garment that you made from a pattern? What if you made changes to the pattern? What do you think *should* be protected?
I'm just looking for your thoughts and opinions, so don't feel the need to answer every little thing. And feel free to PM me with your response as well.
Thanks,... I feel so honored - to be included in this lovely treasury

Re: stenciling fabric techniques?? - when i did stenciling i cut my own as well, just as you said i took drawings of hebiscous that i wanted. worked great. painted a serong with them, and then went crazy on my walls. was delicious... Re: stenciling fabric techniques?? - My son and I do some stenciling using clear contact paper. Draw you design on to any type of paper, lay over a clear sheet of contact paper & cut out the design with an exacto knife. We use regular acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium. We've done several t-shirts & they've stayed really nice through many washings ..

or search for "flat backed" then add rhinestones, jewels, gems, etc. after it... Costume gems - Hi, I need some assistance. I'm not sure what the correct term is for them, but I need to replace some gems/jewels that have fallen off my bellydance costumes. I'm having trouble finding them on the internet and not sure where to look or what to search for. They are not "beads" because "beads" have holes. They are large jewels, often 1 cm or larger, (I need various sizes and colors) they have a metal holder that they fit into and the metal part fastens to the costume. Thanks.... Re: my booth from my latest festival - Lovely booth, and what a gorgeous view you had!... Re: supplies survey - Well, I tried to take it, but would not accept one answer where my only response was to fill in the "Other" dialog box. It was telling me I had to fill it in, but there really was nothing I could check off that would be right.... Re: stenciling fabric techniques?? - We silk screen with stencil cut outs using freezer paper. It's waxy on one side and plain on the other so you can draw on one the paper side to cut out your stencil and then the waxy side faces up/away from the shirt when you add paint....
